Ghana National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (GNACSA)


In fulfilment of international obligations under the UN Plan of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (UNPoA) to its implementation, the NACSA presents Ghana’s country report on the implementation of the UNPoA to the United Nations. The NACSA leads Ghana’s delegation to participate in the Biennial Meeting of States at the UN Headquarters and other international meetings. For instance, the Commission led the Ghana delegation to the United Nations Preparatory Committee meetings on the proposed Arms Trade Treaty [ATT] and presented Ghana’s position on the ATT at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States of America.

The Commission takes part in international conferences and training workshops on SALW to contribute to discussions, present Ghana’s position on SALW issues and also to build capacity. The NACSA participated in a workshop on ECOWAS Exemption Certificate in Ouagadougou in March, 2010. Also, the Commission took part in the 2nd Independent Meeting of Experts in Lome, Togo from 18th to 19th August, 2010 to consider a Draft Guide on the Harmonization of Legislation on Small Arms and Light Weapons in West Africa. Again, the Commission partook in the ECOWAS meeting on a Common Position on the proposed Arms Trade treaty [ATT] in Cotonou, Benin from 13th to 15th December, 2010 as well as other regional programmes that it was invited to.
